ABOUT ME
I am a PhD candidate in the Department of Public Administration at North Carolina State University. My research focuses on public and nonprofit governance and the policy process. My research revolves around the 3 C's: communication, collaboration, and conflict. I'm interested in how individuals, groups, and organizations communicate about policy problems and solve policy issues. I have examined the role of citizens in community collaborative partnerships, the state of research in nonprofit studies, the role of narratives in the policy process, and the effect of professionalism on public service outcomes. Check out my research page for more information about my publications and projects.
I teach several introductory classes at the undergraduate level. Research methods for political science is an introductory course for political science students that acquaints them with the research process and commonly used quantitative tools for analysis. I also teach Introduction to American Government and Politics. This course is a general education requirement but is also required for political science majors. It is an introductory undergraduate course in political science that introduces students to the major American political institutions. Lastly, I teach Introduction to Nonprofits, which familiarizes students with the nonprofit sector. For more information about my teaching experiences, check out my teaching pages.
I worked in government, higher education, and nonprofit organizations before pursuing my Ph.D. I was an Americorps VISTA and I worked in the Mayor's Office in Lansing, Michigan on youth, family, and education issues. I also worked in college student affairs for about 10 years. After leaving higher education, I worked at a community mediation center. I'm a transformative mediator and restorative process facilitator. In my free time I volunteer, bake, and enjoy time with my family.
